About this place Peacock PDX

Peacock PDX is an LGBTQ+ bar at 1400 SE Morrison Street in Portland's Buckman neighbourhood, opened in September 2025 in the former Crush Bar space. A rainbow archway marks the entrance, and the bar has gender-inclusive restrooms. The programme runs on karaoke, trivia, drag shows and recurring dance parties, so the crowd shifts with the night. It filled the gap Crush left in inner Southeast when it closed in early 2025. Check its social channels for the weekly schedule.

I think the rather bold/loose formatting of the speed dating works to it’s own detriment. I get where they’re trying to go with it but I just don’t think it works for a lot of people. Having the onus being put on the individual participants to “choose” their own dates just seems like it’s more of a loosely structured social gathering based on looks and how cool your outfit is. I spoke to several other people at the poly event I went to and they also expressed that the reason they were seeking a speed dating format was because they have trouble approaching people on their own, and that it made them very anxious to have to choose someone everytime. It was just kind of sad to see the pretty/popular people just kind of switch between themselves while the shy/neurodivergent folks hung sullenly in the corner or leave early. I ended up spending most of the night getting told no and having barely anybody to talk to. It seems to me that calling it “speed dating” is just false advertising at that point. I wouldn’t have gone if I had known that was the format, and other people probably would have if they had.
