About this place Campus SF

Campus SF occupies an interesting position in the San Francisco bar geography — it is in the Mission District rather than the Castro or SoMa, serving a neighbourhood that has a strong queer presence but lacks the concentration of explicitly gay commercial spaces of those more established gay districts. The bar markets itself as bear and leather-friendly, and the atmosphere reflects a masculine-presenting gay and bisexual male clientele that values the unpretentious Mission environment over the more self-conscious Castro bar scene. Valencia Street, where Campus is located, is the centre of the Mission's queer social life — more lesbian and non-binary in its general character than the Castro, but with a range of expression. Campus provides a specifically gay male space within this broader queer corridor. The bar draws regulars from the Mission's gay and bisexual male community, as well as visitors who are exploring beyond the Castro. Good draft beer selection, low-key atmosphere, no attitude.

We hosted a large happy hour in Campus' backyard patio space, and our team and attendees loved the ambience and the drinks! The bartender was also attentive, knowledgable, and so friendly. We would definitely recommend this bar!

Horrible service. Some of the rudest staff I have ever encountered. Drinks were not that good, especially for the price.

Avoid Campus Bar in San Francisco. I bought two Diet Cokes and was walking out when the bouncer aggressively knocked the cups straight out of my hands, sending them onto the ground. No warning, no explanation—just unnecessary aggression. If there’s a rule about drinks leaving the bar, that’s fine, but physically slapping something out of a customer’s hand without explanation is completely unacceptable. It was rude, unprofessional, and honestly shocking behavior from someone representing the business. A simple “you can’t take drinks outside” would have solved the situation instantly. Instead, the bouncer chose to escalate things for no reason. Places like this forget that basic respect toward customers matters. Based on this experience alone, I would strongly recommend going somewhere else. There are plenty of bars in San Francisco that know how to treat people without resorting to this kind of behavior.

Campus is a good venue for a group gathering, with some issues. The service is good. Campus doesn't serve food, but has a QR scan to order food (mostly pizza) from a nearby establishment. For group functions, Campus will "reserve" an area (tables and chairs) for your group, with a small reserved sign on the tables, but does nothing to prevent other groups from encroaching. People often tried to take our chairs as their group ran out, and crowded around our tables. Campus gets crowded. Security at the door made it difficult for members of our group to get in, when the person didn't know the name of the person that made our reservation.
