About the event

This week, audiences in Gama and Sobradinho can watch the dance performance “Severino e Silva,” composed of 10 choreographies of popular Northeastern dances.

The work by Transições Cia de Dança, with artistic direction by Lehandro Lira and rehearsal by Charles Costa, dialogues with the poem Morte e Vida Severina by João Cabral de Melo Neto, and with works by the painter Candido Portinari, translating into movement the strength, diversity, and resilience of the Northeastern people.
The performance arises from the artistic restlessness to unite two iconic references of Brazilian culture – the literature of João Cabral de Melo Neto and the visual arts of Portinari – to tell, through dance, the story of a people rich in colors, diversity, and trajectories, always resilient in the face of adversity. The restaging of the performance is justified by the success of its premiere and by the demand from the public school system, consolidating the company as a base for cultural and pedagogical multiplication in the Federal District, with the formation of new audiences, valorization of peripheral artists, and generation of work for a large paid team. The activities include accessibility measures and facilitated popular admission.
