About this place The Newtown Hotel

The Newtown Hotel, on the corner of King and Watkin Streets, is one of the inner west's most storied queer pubs, a gay venue in Newtown as far back as the 1980s. After years as a more general pub it was relaunched in 2025 under publican Sue Cameron, who returned it firmly to the LGBTQ+ community with a promise of a night out bigger and gayer than ever. Today it runs a busy calendar of drag shows several nights a week with a team of resident drag queens, plus trivia, bingo and trans and community nights. The atmosphere is friendly, unpretentious and local, drawing a mixed queer crowd from across the inner west. With its central King Street location it sits at the heart of Newtown's revived gay nightlife strip, a short walk from Stonewall Newtown and the Bank Hotel.

Red head girl security denied entry whilst I was completely sober - I work in the same field so was a bit surprised ? Let my friend in however who was off her face… not too sure why - just got a bite to eat in between coming back, not too happy with the service.
