Imano Tokyo Hostel/Cafe&Bar Shinjuku

It's a 10-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, and there are many shops and restaurants along the way, which is very convenient. However, the hostel's logo isn't very noticeable. Since I was staying in the bed closest to the door, the door lock was very loud and could wake me up accidentally. There is a women's floor, but there's no place to open your luggage compartment, so I recommend bringing a carry-on suitcase.

The hotel concept is a capsule hotel. Toilets and bathrooms are shared. The staff are very polite. The location is good. The rooms are a bit stuffy and quite small. You can rent towels for 200 yen. This should have been free. It's suitable for a 1-2 day stay, but not for longer periods in my opinion.

I decided to use this service because it would be impossible to get home after watching the movie. It was very convenient as it was close to the movie theater.

It’s the only hostel that doesn’t have a luggage storage or even some sort of safety box. The cleanliness is not too good. The staff and location is just okay. I hope the hostel services and facilities will be improved in the future. Overall, not so recommended.

I accidentally took charger #6 in my backpack, will i be charged. Im very sorry as i did not mean to. Only complain was that the bed was super dusty and i woke up with dust coming out of my nose

If you value your sleep and have to pick between this place and Unplan Shinjuku, pick Unplan. Source: I stayed at both (I stayed at imano just one night and got horrible sleep, I stayed at Unplan 4 nights and slept like a baby every night). Also, Imano makes you pay extra for a towel?? Imagine spending $100 per night to share a room with 6 strangers and they can’t even offer you a free towel. Unplan gives you a free one ;) Sincerely, someone who is currently wide awake in the middle of the night at Imano due to the extremely loud doors, noisy bed curtains, and inconsiderate people turning the lights on after midnight

The Imano Tokyo Hostel is conveniently located near Shinjuku Station, making it very easy to get around Tokyo thanks to the wide range of train and subway lines available. For budget travelers, the nightly rate is quite reasonable, and the beds are surprisingly cozy for a hostel setting. However, there is one major downside that significantly affects the overall experience: there are no lockers for luggage. Guests are expected to leave their belongings in the shared dorm room. In reality, this becomes quite chaotic, as many people spread their luggage around, making the room feel cluttered and disorganized. While Japan is generally known as a very safe country, I still felt uneasy about leaving my belongings unattended while sleeping. The lack of secure storage is a noticeable flaw, especially for travelers carrying valuables or larger suitcases. Overall, this hostel works if you prioritize location and budget, but it may not be the best choice if you value organization, personal space, or peace of mind regarding your belongings.

It was okay. Right off the hop, if you’re young, likely partying heavily, and fit in with the party crowd and don’t mind a fair bit of grime and noise, this is probably the hostel for you. Pros list first: - Front desk staff and their entrance lounge is probably the best part about this place. It’s a good space - bed mattress and pillow were comfortable - sheets provided were clean - showers had good pressure with hot water (most of the time, you’d randomly get a blast of cold due to some water heater issues, which they have signs warning about, depending on the floor you shower) - toilets worked - sink area was spacious enough - location: close to a lot of what Shinjuku has to offer. Good walking proximity Cons: - grimy. I’ve backpacked a lot of countries and for a lot of years, including Japan twice many years apart. Hostels have generally improved over the years in areas of cleanliness, comfort, and aesthetics. This place’s level of grime reminds me of shoe stringing it in proper dives in SE Asia and Mexico years ago when I first started backpacking - before hostels started levelling up their game. The walls alone were incredibly filthy. A simple fresh coat of paint in the common space on each floor would make a huge difference, at least visually (unless it’s a purposeful vibe?) - in addition to the grime, they have shoe boxes on each floor that are probably the worst smelling areas in the building, right next to the elevator entrace. I almost threw up opening one because the stink of it was so foul. Haha we actually had a good laugh on that one. I instead tucked my shoes under my bunk. - toilets smell like vomit. It’s at least faint after a cleaning but it just doesn’t seem to go away. They were all a bit gross but functioned fine so it is what it is - the common space on each floor is just concrete floor and walls, which doesn’t absorb any sounds. From your bed, you hear every conversation and noise in the commons. Vice versa too from the dorms. You hear everything going on in the bunks from the common space. If someone leaves in the middle of the night or early morning, you can hear them fumbling with their luggage, banging into tables and chairs, coughing, as they try to leave. I’d suggest carpet or other noise cancellation measures but carpet for sure would not survive very long. - only two washers and dryers for all floors - which isn’t enough. Dryers took 2h to dry a load. There was a queue and long wait. Go to a laundromat down the road instead. - beds have no shelving or personal space to put items. They are bunk beds rather than pod bunks one can find elsewhere. Pods are much better (another hostel up the road offers pods, with luggage / clothing / shelving right in the bed/pod space). With pods you can unwind a little, unpack. With these bunks, ya can’t really ‘settle in’ and feel at home - which doesn’t lend to one wanting to stay here longer than needed. Overall with the level of grime and smells, there’s just a constant feeling of not being able to enjoy the space and environment. It’s okay though and if you need a bed in a pinch or shoe stringing it, this place will do. It’s a shame because a fresh coat of paint, a little more effort on cleaning, more washer/dryers, and a focus on common area as well as bed space comforts - this place would be elevated and could really shine. It was our last stop on a 3 week backpack circuit across Japan, so we tried many hostels. Sadly this was the last and least favourable stay before departing. I’d say 3 to 3.5 stars, which is a decent enough stay if the price is right. Staff, lounge, and location gains it a lot of favour.

Stayed here while on a group trip. Good location, the beds were surprisingly comfortable. The showers were good. Unfortunately, you do have to make your own bed, and if you’re in the top bunk I can see this being very difficult and the last thing you want to do during a late arrival. They give you one towel and charge if you need another which as a female traveler is inconvenient when you have to wash your hair. The hostel dorms are very narrow, not much room for luggage. I probably wouldn’t book this hostel on my own, I’d go with a nicer one, but this is a good budget option.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Love the cafe downstairs and great location! The rooms were average. Wish the shared sitting space wasn’t right outside the bedrooms (although there are signs and told to lower voices after a certain time some didn’t listen so a shared sitting space further away could maybe help prevent this). Also doors have an electric code to enter, so it made a noise every time it’s opened. But the beds and space were clean and the privacy curtains were nice!
