Since she realized in the schoolyard how a classmate insulted another with “You Jew,” many questions have occupied her: What does it mean to look Jewish? Is there such a thing? Do I have to be ashamed of my Jewishness, or can I be proud of it? Born in Ukraine, Tanya Raab moved to Germany as a Jewish refugee at the age of 3. Her mother is Jewish, her father is not. Over the years, she has repeatedly been advised to hide this part of herself to protect herself. But one day she decides not to hide anymore. Whether with a Star of David necklace at the gym or a rainbow kippah while shopping – the queer and feminist activist shows that Jewish life can be lived differently than expected.
