Aljosha Muttardi - Reading
About the event
Aljosha Muttardi reads from “It won’t get better here, but it will get better. An attempt to cope in this world.” How can one stay true to oneself in a world full of expectations, performance pressure, and constant visibility? Aljosha Muttardi is a doctor, author, podcaster, and one of the most well-known queer content creators in the German-speaking world. He became known to a broad audience as part of the “Fab5” from the Netflix series Queer Eye Germany, which received the Grimme Special Award in 2023. With his humorous, self-ironic, and at the same time thoughtful manner, he advocates for diversity, mental health, and social justice. With his book “It won’t get better here, but it will get better. An attempt to cope in this world,” Aljosha made it onto the SPIEGEL bestseller list. In it, he gives very personal insights into his life. He talks about the shame and fear that accompanied his coming out, and the constant feeling of not being “normal.” He openly discusses performance pressure, self-doubt, and the search for mental health in a world that constantly demands performance. In doing so, Aljosha connects his own story with the social issues that shape his activism. He deals with queerness, privilege, and toxic masculinity and shows why veganism, the climate crisis, racism, and equality are inextricably linked for him.
