About the event

Queer Lindy Hop Beginner Workshop - ready for the first social dance! Sat, September 26, 2026 Queer and love music, movement, and trying out a partner dance together? Then come to our three-hour Lindy Hop workshop on 09/26/2026 at 2:30 PM! Lindy Hop is an energetic partner dance from the Swing family. It originated in the 1920s and 30s in the African American community in the USA and is the predecessor of other dances like Boogie-Woogie or Jive. Today, Lindy Hop is danced all over the world – at dance parties, festivals, and in parks. In this workshop, you will learn the most important basics of Lindy Hop. It is danced in pairs: with us, however, regardless of traditional gender roles. Everyone has the opportunity to learn both leading and following. This way you can try out both roles and it's just mega fun! The focus is on the fun of moving to music. We start with a short solo jazz warm-up, practice simple steps, and combine them into initial figures like Send-Out or Pass-by. We also give a brief insight into the history and origin of Lindy Hop: This dance developed from other dance styles within the African American community and is closely linked to the history of jazz. In the Harlem Renaissance of the 1930s and 40s, during the Big Band era, it reached its peak.
