About this place Sir Sandford Fleming Park (The Dingle)

Sir Sandford Fleming Park, known locally as the Dingle after its stone memorial tower, is on the Northwest Arm in the Jollimore area of Halifax. For decades the wooded trails climbing from the main parking lot near the tower were one of the city's best-known outdoor gay cruising areas. Activity has dropped a lot in the app era, so treat it as unverified. In the daytime the park is busy with families, dog-walkers and swimmers, so be discreet, and evenings are the more likely window. Public sex can lead to charges in Canada. Stay where you can leave easily and keep your phone charged after dark.

The tower is so cool here. We didn’t get to climb it, but will be back when we can. The waterfront trail is a nice peaceful walk. There was plenty of parking!

The park is medium-sized, quite nice and pleasant for walking or coming with leashed dogs. I wouldn't recommend traveling far just to see it, but I can say that those who live around it are lucky to have such a nice place nearby.

The owner of the B&B that I was staying at suggested visiting the tower. It's located in a really pretty park next to the harbour. There is plenty of parking and you can walk up to either by the road or on a trail on the lower side. Once inside, you climb up the steps to get to the top. There are informational panels along the walls and it is very spacious so you don't feel confined like you do sometimes in a lighthouse. Once at the top, there is a great view from all sides of the tower. Glad I stopped to see it.

Close to but not downtown, The Dingle is an easy hiking trail with a beautiful marshland "The Frog Pond" and a lot of rolling hills and wooded areas.

We walked from the public gardens area of downtown Halifax. It was about 10 miles round trip and an excellent long walk seeing another part of Halifax that is so different from the hustle and bustle of the city. The single area is quiet, serene and has people of all ages enjoying the park. We were unable to climb the tower but we did climb the miniature replica tower in the playground down by the water. Now that was fun!!

A great walking experience in the small quaint park. Great vistas of the North West Arm , yachts, boating and in a peaceful setting. The tower is historic and especially appealing when it is open for views from the top. Lots of stairs involved in going up the tower.

Excellent park with lots of spots to relax and take a walk , take a dip, have a picnic, play on the playground, etc. It is also home of the Dingle Tower which was built in 1908. The view from the tower is awesome across the arm and the many beautiful homes.

Pictures speak more than words. Kid friendly, family friendly, pet friendly, free parking. Good for picnics or a nice walk around the park on one of its many trails.
