Workshop Series: 2SLGBTQIA+ Improv for Anxiety
About the event
Too anxious to try improv? This group is for you! This four-week workshop presents anxiety management skills and their application to everyday life in the context of learning theatrical improvisation. The class will focus on the nervous system, the fight/flight/freeze response, and how to use mindfulness, self-acceptance, and compassion to manage emotional overwhelm. Participants are supported through beginner improvisation exercises which teach a step-by-step approach to collaborative creation. Anxiety makes us say "No," feel isolated, and attempt to control things. Alternatively, improvisation trains us to say "Yes," step forward, live in the moment, and respond to what comes, trusting that we, and the people who support us, can handle whatever comes. With respect, consent, and safe levels of challenge, we stumble towards magical creativity. Please note: Improv for Anxiety takes place over four sessions, on Oct 3, 10, 17, and 31. In partnership with the Healthy Minds Cooperative and facilitated by Bill Wood, Creative Arts Therapist
