We just returned from a 3 night's stay at Sir Sams. We are couple in our late 50s, on motorcycles, who chose this hotel for it's proximity to where we wanted to ride and the waterfront property of enjoying fishing and canoeing. We are former Bed and Breakfast owners and Restaurant/Tavern as well. So have some experience in the hospitality industry. This gem of a hotel, (with really cool history dating back to 1919), is one of the most enjoyable stays we've had anywhere in Ontario. It has so much to offer. The negative reviews about the property and saying the owners don't care about the property, just are not true. I felt the place was clean, beautiful flowers and planters about, nice muskoka chairs, screened in patio and nice covered porch facing the water. A gazebo at the waters edge to watch the sunset. Stone firepit at night. As for the owners, all we saw was stuff getting done. Repairing boards around the pool and repainting, and gardening and grass cutting. The owners Janet and Ryan were pulling all day shifts 12 plus hours for sure. They genuinely cared to see you enjoying your stay, asking if you need anything, or offering us amenities. I saw Ryan assist guests with bags when he could, even suggested the sauna to us our last night so they fired it up for us. We used the indoor salt pool with spa features that was amazing. (Included to all guests). It's especially pretty at night with the stars lit up on the ceiling. The loungers deck facing the lake was a nice touch from inside. We did not book any extras at the spa, however guests we spoke with, enjoyed them. Our room #9 in the Hughes Wing was a direct front lake view with balcony, that's stunning. It was in the 30-31 degrees so that room gets warm as other rooms have some shade. We were given an extra fan and used mother nature at supper-time, by leaving the balcony and hallway door open to draw through the breeze and forest coolness from behind the hotel. It worked like a charm and the breeze all night was perfect, from the balcony. I was like a true cottage feeling./experience. Each room comes with a real wood fireplace, which I bet are awesome in cooler months. We plan to try back in the fall for our anniversary. Many guests we spoke with were repeat guests. The food here is top notch, and Janet makes a great ceasar drink too. We only had breakfast here, but we were offered to taste 1/2 of the owner Ryan's prime rib they served that evening, as he couldn't eat it all he said. Well twist our arm..... it was fine cuisine quality that's for sure. It was soooo good. We felt remorse for not booking the room WITH the meal plan included. We didn't think we could plan because of riding. I would HIGHLY recommend you do though Other guests raved over the homemade soups (leek, butternut squash) and pickrel. It's fine dining with quality food and portions. The breakfast was a beautiful fruit bowl, eggs, sausage/bacon and pastries. The tea had raw honey available even. Well worth the value. They've thought of all the fine details, like nice waffle weave robes with their logo to wear to the pool or spa. I'm sorry, but the people who were negative about this place, I question if they're just hard to please. These owners, (who prefer the term "innkeepers"), are sole proprietors, not part of deep pocketed franchise ownership. I didn't see anything that ruined my stay. If you want perfect grounds maybe JW Marriott Rousseau or Deerhurst would be more your taste, at 3x's the cost. For us, we had a wonderful time, and felt the experience over exceded our expectations and cost to value. The only thing better than the beds, location, amenities, and food, was the outstanding hospitality. You won't find this kind of personable ownership anywhere else. These are the kind of people you want running a place like this. Come with a good attitude and enjoy your stay. See photos and video I posted.
Very friendly staff, lovely location, rooms very clean in need off a bit of an upgrade, Spa saltwater pool is fabulous and Dinner ... DELICIOUS! Both nights food was fantastic. We'll be back!
I visited this place several times over the last 20 years.... It's definitely good value for the money and the meals are amazing... I can still taste the nice prime rib dinner with Yorkshire pudding.... And the fish and chips.... Properly done.... Yummmmmmmmmayyyyyy.....
This place is truly a hidden gem. From the moment we arrived the atmosphere was peaceful, welcoming, and absolutely breathtaking. The resort perfectly captures the beauty and relaxation of cottage country while offering an upscale adult getaway experience. The rooms were comfortable, clean, and cozy, with incredible lake views that made it easy to completely unwind. The spa experience was relaxing and professional, creating the perfect escape from the stress of everyday life. What really stood out was the restaurant. The food was exceptional — fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every meal felt like a fine dining experience, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. Whether enjoying breakfast overlooking the lake or a romantic dinner in the evening, the restaurant added something truly special to the entire stay. The staff throughout the resort were friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making guests feel welcome. Sir Sam’s Inn & Spa is the perfect destination for couples looking for relaxation, romance, amazing food, and a true Ontario cottage country experience. Highly recommended — we will absolutely be returning.
Disappointing to say the least. Resort is very tired and no evidence of upkeep. Room was very basic. No glasses in the room, 2 remotes for tv but no instructions. Called front desk early evening to rectify this but no call back till about 9am following morning. Toilet paper was quality you’d see at MacDonalds or typical greasy spoon. If you have back or knee issues toilet height is low profile and bar fridge sits literally on the floor. No kayaks or canoes as advertised. Deck chairs and porch table full of debris. Simply would not recommend this facility. Their advertising and hype is totally misleading in my humble opinion!
We had the most amazing experience at Sir Sam's Inn! The room and the view were spectacular! The team is absolutely amazing! The food was fantastic! The spa service was next level! And we really loved the tour of the wine cellar, such amazing support for Ontario wineries. I would recommend this hidden gem to anyone looking for a fun little getaway!
