Kihei doesn't have a full-time gay bar, and Maui's LGBTQ+ scene revolves around beaches, resorts, and community events rather than a nightlife strip. But you'll find a cluster of bars in and around Kihei Kalama Village at 1913 South Kihei Road - a row locals call the "BARmuda Triangle."

Vibe Bar Maui

Vibe Bar Maui is a small craft-cocktail lounge in Kihei Kalama Village, and it's the closest thing to a gay bar in town. When you search for a gay night out on Maui, Vibe Bar Maui usually comes up first, with a mixed crowd, resident DJs, and themed nights. It's a good spot for a relaxed drink along the South Kihei Road strip. Hours vary by season, so check ahead.

da Playground Maui

For queer nightlife, head to da Playground Maui, a live-music and dance club in Wailuku, about 20 minutes north of Kihei. They host a drag show on the last Sunday of each month and an LGBT dance party every second Thursday - the closest thing Maui has to a regular gay club. Schedules and cover charges change by event, so check their social channels before you go.

A Historical Note

The property at 551 South Kihei Road used to be the Maui Sunseeker, Hawaii's largest gay-owned resort, until it was sold and rebranded as Kohea Kai Resort Maui in 2016. The gay-specific branding is gone, but the beachfront boutique hotel still welcomes LGBTQ+ guests.

If you'd rather hit the beach than barhop, Little Beach at Makena is a short drive south - it's Maui's famous clothing-optional spot. And in June, the island's LGBTQ+ community comes together for Maui Pride in Wailuku.
