Northampton Pride 2027
About This Event
Northampton Pride always feels a little different. It's one of the first big LGBTQ+ events in the American calendar, a May parade and festival on Main Street. Over 10,000 people show up in a city of 29,000. This place has had a queer identity for a long time, deeper than most other communities its size.
It kicks off New England's Pride season. The Five College community around it—Smith, UMass, the others—gives it its particular flavor: politically sharp, culturally clued-in, and really diverse across the whole LGBTQ+ spectrum.
The parade on Main Street is the main event. Floats from Smith, UMass, and the many Pioneer Valley LGBTQ+ groups roll down a downtown street that’s as openly supportive of its queer community as any you'll find. Afterward, the festival on the Northampton Common brings in community groups, local artists and musicians, and everyone from Northampton's LGBTQ+ population.
If you're visiting, May's a good time for Northampton Pride. It's an easy first stop on a New England trip, before the summer crowds hit.
