LEGABIBO

Lesbians, Gays and Bisexuals of Botswana (LEGABIBO) is the country's leading LGBTIQ+ rights and advocacy organization. Founded in 1998 as a support group, it became — in 2016, after a landmark Court of Appeal victory — the first LGBTQ organization to win legal registration in Botswana. Based in Gaborone, LEGABIBO led the litigation that decriminalized same-sex intimacy in 2019 and continues to run advocacy, legal support, health programs and community events, including Gaborone Pride. For visitors, it is the single best point of contact for plugging into the local queer community.
