Palms On Oxford

Absolutely unacceptable experience at Palms during Mardi Gras season. My friends and I arrived in two separate groups of five at different times specifically to avoid being treated as a large group. The first group was allowed in without issue. When the second group approached, the security guard suddenly claimed there were “too many of us” and refused entry. The explanation was inconsistent and made no sense given how we arrived. What made the situation even more disturbing was that shortly after denying us entry, the same guard allowed a larger group of seven white patrons to walk straight in without hesitation. The inconsistency was obvious. When I questioned the reasoning calmly, the guard became hostile and dismissive rather than offering a clear explanation. Experiencing this during Mardi Gras season — a time that is supposed to celebrate inclusion, diversity, and equality — felt deeply hypocritical. As people of colour, the treatment felt racially biased and discriminatory. Queer spaces should be safe and welcoming for everyone, not selectively inclusive. Management needs to urgently review their security staff and ensure consistent, fair treatment for all patrons.

Security guard was incredibly rude and hostile we asked if there was an entry fee when he told us the cost we asked if we could send one person down to have a look at the venue before the other 6 of us paid entry. A simple no would have sufficed instead he became hostile told us not to waste his time (was no line at all) and said he did not care if we came in or not. Lost a simple 75 dollars on door when simple kindness of a “sorry we do not allow that” could’ve sufficed we likely would’ve paid and gone in. Disappointing.

The funnest place for a good time in Sydney. The queue may look long, but is well worth it. Have even going here for a decade, and never had a bad night. In my opinion, also nicest security staff at night clubs.

Door staff were extremely rude to my girl friends and I last night, actually disgusting. The tall security guard with a beard basically yelled at us to get our ID’s out as soon as we lined up (no one else was lining up so no idea why he felt the need to yell), he came straight up to me (I was third in the line with my friends) and he literally yelled “show me your ID right now” acting all power and mighty and so I did and he basically just throws it back to me without saying anything. Mind you we were very tired at this point and thought oh this place across the road looks good let’s give that a go before we go home, instant regret. The staff had no right to be rude to us, I don’t expect amazing treatment but at least treat us like human beings. At one point he grabbed my friends ID, and a friend of his walked past they had a hug and a good old chat for 3-4 minutes or so while my friend was standing there and he was holding her ID in his hand and made her wait. She asked for it back he ignored her while he chatted to his friend… Basically treated us like we were nothing and wanted to assert his power so it seems, he was rude for absolutely no reason and for this to be a LGBTQ club it’s disgusting you have someone representing the front door who is that disrespectful to females. It literally ruined our night we walked in paid for entry (also he kept screaming $12.50 entry like okay we get it) and we walked straight out and went home.

About one year ago Palms changed door man on weekends. The previous door team were very friendly to all customers. Although I’ve never personally been denied entry, I’ve heard the way the door man speaks to people and it’s just plain rude. I’ve been going there for 15 years and recently my views of the place has gone from positive to negative. I actually think inside has improve a lot, but the door experience over shadows all the work that is happening inside. They really need to replace the current door staff with people more akin to the culture and ethos of the LGBT community.

I never actually stepped foot in this place. My two friends dragged me out on my first kid free night in 7 months. I naturally wore my Birkenstocks as it was a humid night. I got refused entry because I was wearing open toed shoes, the first time in my entire life I had been refused entry to anywhere. I still am not sure why I got refused considering the person taking payment into the club was wearing open toed heels. I ended up leaving my friends so they could get in and going home. If you have a dress code; it should be made more clear. The bouncer was very rude and I’m very disappointed in the way I was treated. I was only there to dance and have fun with my friends.
