About this place Eddy's Bar

Eddy's Bar on Julu Lu is one of the most significant LGBTQ+ venues in China by any measure: a small, unpretentious bar that has operated continuously since the 1990s, outlasting wave after wave of higher-profile venues. In the era before international-style LGBTQ+-friendly bars arrived in Shanghai, Eddy's was the scene. Today it retains a loyal clientele — older regulars who remember the pre-commercial period, younger LGBTQ+-friendly men who appreciate the history, and international visitors who seek it out. The bar is not glamorous; its value is in three decades of continuous community service. Staff are welcoming, discreet, and accustomed to hosting both locals and visitors. The Julu Lu location puts it at the edge of the Former French Concession's most atmospheric streets. Cash only. Arrive after 21:00 for company.
