First of all, thank you so much for the complimentary room upgrade from a double room in the annex to a junior suite in the main building.
We've been to many wellness resorts in Austria, so we have some points of comparison, and I feel that things aren't quite right here in several areas.
The service itself was really good. We had Antonio as our server, and he was excellent and efficient. Sometimes it took quite a while for the next course to arrive at dinner, and he made a real effort to speed things up, even though it wasn't actually that busy. Speaking of dinner, the portions were all very small. On the second evening, we asked for seconds, which wasn't a problem at all.
On the first evening, I asked for a portion of wedges because they were served as a side dish with another meal, and we received three! Wedges? Three! The schnitzel was a 10/10!
There are two areas for swimming and sauna. On the 5th floor, you'll find the infinity pool, the relaxation area, a whirlpool, and a bistro with delicious afternoon snacks and drinks. In the basement, one floor down, are more saunas and the indoor pool. This is where the clothing-optional sauna area is located, which I found really annoying. It's pitch black in that area, while all the other saunas, which had a nice view, required clothing.
The biggest drawback for us was the opening hours. In every other wellness hotel we've stayed in, the pool opens at 6 or 7 a.m., but here the infinity pool and saunas don't open until 11 a.m. So, swimming in the fresh air before breakfast wasn't possible, nor was it possible after eating, as everything upstairs closed at 8 p.m. Apparently, everything stays open later on Fridays, but unfortunately, we weren't informed of this and only found out later from someone else.
Breakfast was fantastic! Fresh egg dishes, fresh juices, and you can sit outside upon request, although tables weren't set. Breakfast is only served until 10:30 a.m., which I find outdated.
... The room was modern and spacious, but there was no air conditioning (why not in a 5-star hotel?). Sleeping with the door open wasn't possible because the river flowed right next to it, and it was very rough and incredibly loud. The lighting system was super cool and modern.
In the spa area, there was water, dried fruit, and pre-made tea; you couldn't make your own tea (there were no tea bags). There was also no snack, coffee, cake, or anything else. I've never experienced this in a wellness hotel, and especially in Austria, it's standard practice for a 5-star hotel.
The Summer Card you receive is fantastic. You can take any gondola once a day completely free of charge. The location is also superb.
Parking is free in front of the hotel; it costs €15 per day if you want to use the garage.
I'm torn between giving the hotel 3 or 4 stars. Thanks for a lovely stay :)
