Gay Cruising in Łódź: The Honest 2026 Guide
Last verified: October 2026 · Compiled from venue checks and local and international sources from 2025–2026 · Report a change
Łódź (say "woodge") was once the "Polish Manchester", a city of red-brick textile mills and factory owners' palaces. Then it became "Hollyłódź": the National Film School that trained Roman Polański and Andrzej Wajda is here, and the city still has a cinematic, slightly faded glamour. Today the old mills are lofts, clubs and galleries, giant murals cover the tenement walls, and Piotrkowska Street runs for four kilometres of neon through the centre. Walk it at night, duck through an arched gateway into a red-brick courtyard, order a dark local beer or an ice-cold vodka, and you'll feel the city's young, creative, distinctly liberal streak. Its gay cruising scene is small but easy to navigate: one renovated darkroom-and-video venue a few minutes from Piotrkowska, a modest sauna, a couple of bars, and busy apps.
Set expectations: Warsaw is only about 75–90 minutes away by fast PKP Intercity train, and that's where Poland's big gay clubs and saunas are. Łódź is the opposite: intimate, local and quiet, a city where cruising happens in one or two discreet places rather than on a scene. Here's how it works.
Legal in one line: homosexuality has been legal in Poland since 1932, but there's no recognition of same-sex couples. In 2026 the Sejm passed a law creating a registered "closest person" status for couples, and President Karol Nawrocki vetoed it in July 2026; the governing coalition lacked the votes to override him. Public attitudes are much more open in big cities like Łódź than in the countryside, but discretion on the street is still wise.
The main cruising venue (and the one we'd recommend)
Dark Room Videoland · Al. Tadeusza Kościuszki 28
Łódź's only dedicated cruising venue, a short walk west of Piotrkowska. Out front it's an adult shop; behind it are video cabins, a small cinema, darkrooms, a small bar, lockers and a smoking room. It was renovated in early 2026, with a refreshed cinema and new darkrooms, and recent visitors describe it as clean and atmospheric, with friendly, non-judgmental staff; older reviews were harsher on hygiene, so the refit matters. It's open in the evening and late at night. Card and BLIK payments are accepted, though a few visitors have had card terminals fail, so carry some cash. Hours aren't published reliably; check its social media before going.
Sauna and bars
Sauna Ganimedes · ul. Sienkiewicza 37 (gate B, intercom 100)
The city's only gay sauna, open since 2004 and listed as open daily from 15:00, with a dry sauna, steam room, cabins, lockers and towels included, plus occasional naked and bear nights. Manage your expectations: this is a small, basic neighbourhood sauna, and anyone used to the big saunas of Berlin, Amsterdam or even Warsaw may be disappointed. For cruising, Videoland is the better bet. Reviews complain about cold rooms, a steam room that wasn't working and early closing, and there are few recent reviews at all. Call +48 731 899 331 (after 15:00) or check its Facebook page before you go.
Finding your way: in Łódź, many bars, clubs and even the sauna sit inside the courtyards (podwórka) of old tenement buildings (kamienice), reached through an arched gateway from the street. Look for the gate number and intercom code (like gate B, intercom 100 at Ganimedes) rather than a street-front door.
Pre-drinks on Piotrkowska
Before Videoland or the sauna, do as local students and creatives do and start in an alternative bar off Piotrkowska. Neither is a gay bar, but both have a relaxed, liberal, arty crowd:
- Niebostan, Piotrkowska 17: a café-bar up a staircase in a courtyard, with a hipster crowd at night and a good beer list.
- 6. Dzielnica, Piotrkowska 102: an alternative culture bar in a huge high-ceilinged apartment three floors up (go through the door in the gate on the right), with two bars, a stage, concerts and exhibitions; open from 17:00, until 03:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, closed Sundays and Mondays.
- OFF Piotrkowska, Piotrkowska 138/140: a former cotton factory turned complex of bars, clubs, food trucks and a karaoke bar.
- Ganimedes club: the sister bar of the sauna, open since 1999, with nightly karaoke and parties. Listings disagree on its current location (OFF Piotrkowska at Piotrkowska 138/140, or Al. Piłsudskiego 6), so check its Facebook page before heading out. Opens around 20:00.
- Narraganset, Pl. Komuny Paryskiej 5A (also entered from Piotrkowska 110): a central gay bar and club with karaoke, themed parties and 80s and 90s pop. Reviews are mixed on door staff and drinks, and a June 2026 reviewer said it was "about to close", so confirm it's open before you go.
- Apps: Grindr is the main app in Poland; Romeo is popular with locals over 30, and the map-based Sniffies is also used for real-time cruising. Many local profiles are discreet; respect that.
- Meeting someone: meet in a public place first, and be wary of anyone who pushes to change plans or asks for money; as in many countries, dating apps are sometimes used to set up robberies or blackmail.
- At night: the centre is generally safe, but avoid quiet side streets after the bars close, and take a ride-hailing app (Bolt, Uber or FreeNow) home rather than walking.
- Money: Poland uses the złoty (PLN). Cards and BLIK are everywhere, but carry some cash for small venues.

Why there's no outdoor list
GayOut doesn't list parks or public toilets in Łódź, on purpose. Sex in a public place can be punished in Poland as an "indecent act" (nieobyczajny wybryk) under the Code of Petty Offences, city parks are patrolled, and night-time robbery and homophobic harassment are real risks. Videoland, the sauna and the apps cover everything you need, indoors and far more safely.
Apps and safety
Pride, community and health
Marsz Równości: Łódź's Equality March is held in May as the finale of a week-long Maraton Równości of talks, screenings and parties. The 15th march took place on Saturday 9 May 2026. Both are organised by Fabryka Równości, the city's main LGBTQ+ association, which also offers counselling and support groups.
Health: Poland offers free, anonymous HIV testing at consultation and diagnostic points (Punkty Konsultacyjno-Diagnostyczne), including one in Łódź; Fabryka Równości can point you to current times. If a condom breaks, PEP must start within 72 hours: go to the infectious diseases hospital or an emergency department (SOR).
Polish words worth knowing: na zdrowie! (cheers), dzięki (thanks), cześć (hi), gej (gay), kamienica (historic tenement building), podwórko (the hidden inner courtyard, where the best bars are), and pierogi, the dumplings that make the perfect late-night recovery meal. And in Łódź, take time for the city itself: the mill-turned-mall at Manufaktura, the bars and food trucks of OFF Piotrkowska in an old cotton factory, the giant murals all over the centre, and the workers' houses of Księży Młyn.

Frequently asked questions
Where can gay men cruise in Łódź?
The main venue is Dark Room Videoland at Aleja Kościuszki 28, a short walk west of Piotrkowska Street: an adult shop with video cabins, a cinema, newly renovated darkrooms, lockers and a small bar, open in the evening and late at night. Łódź also has a small gay sauna, Ganimedes, at Sienkiewicza 37, and the apps are busy.
Is there a gay sauna in Łódź?
Yes, one: Sauna Ganimedes, at ulica Sienkiewicza 37 (gate B, intercom 100), open daily from 15:00. It's small, with a dry sauna, steam room, cabins and lockers, and recent reviews are mixed, with complaints about temperature and maintenance. Check its Facebook page or call +48 731 899 331 before you go.
Is outdoor cruising safe in Łódź?
GayOut doesn't recommend it. Sex in public can be punished in Poland as an 'indecent act' under the Code of Petty Offences, parks are patrolled, and robberies and homophobic harassment are a real risk at night. Use Videoland, the sauna or the apps instead.
Is Łódź gay-friendly?
Łódź is one of Poland's more liberal cities, with a student and artistic population and an annual Equality March. But Poland has no same-sex partnerships: a 2026 law creating a registered 'closest person' status was vetoed by President Nawrocki in July 2026. Be discreet with public affection, especially at night.
When is the Łódź Equality March?
In May. The 15th Marsz Równości (Equality March) took place on Saturday 9 May 2026, closing a week-long Equality Marathon of events organised by the local association Fabryka Równości. Expect the bars and Videoland to be busiest that weekend.
