Café Acuarela

Café Acuarela is one of Chueca's oldest and most beloved café-bars, open on Calle de Gravina since the early 1990s — effectively since the neighbourhood became the heart of gay Madrid. Its interior is famous for an ornate, candle-lit baroque look: gilded mirrors, religious kitsch, heavy drapes and a large cherub statue by the bar. It draws a relaxed, mixed LGBTQ+ crowd for cocktails and coffee rather than loud dancefloor nights, making it a classic warm-up or wind-down spot a few steps from Plaza de Chueca. A quieter, conversation-friendly counterpoint to the street's busier show bars.
