About this place Moresby Hall

Moresby Hall is a small hotel in a historic country house at Moresby, just north of Whitehaven on the west Cumbrian coast. It's a mainstream, gay-friendly property, not a gay venue. The 210 Google reviews average 4.6, which is strong for the area. It makes a quiet base for the western Lake District, including Ennerdale and Wasdale, and for the coastal path. You'll need a car or taxis, since public transport around here is sparse. The nearest LGBTQ nightlife is a long drive away, so treat this as a countryside stay.

The owners were amazing and very attentive. Harley the dog was also hugely welcoming, especially at meal times! We didn't visit the local town, so I can't comment fully on the location, but the Hall seemed quite remote, i.e. not overly "touristy". Our room was huge and was great value; the same could be said about the food, sizeable portions and superb quality.

The cottage is extremely dated, paint is peeling, the kitchen and bathroom are extremeky tired snd old. There's a smell of damp upon entry. There is no pint of milk, or starter pack of tea or coffee. Window handles are broken. A truly disappointing level of substandard of accommodation.

A treat from my friends for my 60th birthday. We arrived at Moresby Hall, through a very small gateway, on a bleak day. As we entered the Hall we were greated by a beautiful fireplace with comfortable couches and a lovely lady at the desk. She showed us to our room up a very grand staircase and told us we had booked the smallest room in the Hall so they had upgraded us. The room was huge with a large 4 poster bed, chairs and small table, large wardrobe, tv, dressing table and coffee station. There were biscuits, tea and coffee, hot chocolate, plenty of milk and decent sized mugs. The bathroom was clean and the shower was all singing and dancing. There were complimentary toiletries and a shower cap. Breakfast was delicious and they catered for my gluten free diet. The ladies serving were very friendly and informative and Harley the dog was cute. The Hall is stunning inside and is full of history. It looks quite unloved on a grey day but when the sun shines it brings out the stunning building that it is. We were also given a bottle of prosecco for my birthday on our departure.

Stayed overnight whilst visiting family in the area Had a double room on top floor with lovely views of sea Very spacious, clean and quiet Comfortable beds - even with spa shower and in set tv in bathroom ! Lovely breakfast- well looked after by one of the owners of this historic building Yes - it’s quirky and old but rooms were warm and comfortable Will definitely use it again
