Mopodyke House Party
About the event
There are little to no lesbian bars in Melbourne, or really anywhere else in the world for that matter. Since the 80s, lesbian spaces have been disappearing with a vengeance.
While this is partially due to the fact that lesbian specific spaces aren’t as vital for pure survival anymore, it is still hard to watch and has left me (and many others) feeling a little disconnected from community.
In the past, one of the ways lesbians and queer people connected with each other when commercial spaces were unavailable was by hosting and attending house parties.
I have a great space for house parties at my Moonee Ponds sharehouse, so I want to offer it up for this very purpose. In other words, I’m inviting all the lesbians (and anyone who fits under the FLINTA umbrella - https://www.equality-and-diversity.fau.eu/glossary/flinta/) to join me for a lesbian house party.
Please invite all the lesbian and FLINTA people you know. Trans people are always welcome at my home. The only people who are not welcome on this night are cis men and straight cis women
No TERFS. No SWERFS. Be respectful to others and to the space or you will be asked to leave.
