Enjoyed a wonderful meal at The Black Sheep. It boasts a quiet, intimate atmosphere and friendly, efficient service; but the food is the star. We enjoyed Scallop Crudo and Crab Cakes to start, with the Lobster Ravioli and Haddock Hodge Podge for mains. You can't get fresher seafood than the Atlantic coast and The Black Sheep utilises it well; bringing out the delicate flavours with perfect compliments. It's not inexpensive but you're getting what you pay for, no doubt about it.
Where to start... We chose this place as our last dinner in town, a going away and a birthday. Needless to say we chose wrong. The food was so horribly over priced and under delivered for all five of us that I'm not even sure where to start. It was hands down our most expensive meal of our trip and unnecessarily so. The ramen and pork belly was a weird saucy attempt at 90s fusion with a mushy slab of pork belly, the mussels were small and sadly still dirty and full of sand, fish and chips were average at best, the short rib was a weird hot and cold mix and not at all what was expected, the highlight, if you could call it that, was the lobster raviolis that had a tablespoon of filling each and cost about $48 for about eight of them. The shining star the French fries and squid ink aioli but again about $10 for about 14 fries and two tablespoons of aioli, nothing really delivered. The room is weird too, it's essentially a pub masquerading as an attempt at fine dining and that is reflected in the staff attire, you have some dressed to the nines, polished, professional, then others dressed for a Sunday picnic, tiny lamps on giant tables so we had to pass it around to read the menus. All in all of say give it a pass and go somewhere else. If you're.looking for classic pub fare, check out the Brown Hound just outside the same building or the Stubborn Goat a few blocks up. There are lots of much better options within walking distance.
Very good food. Recommend going by what servers suggest on the order. Large portions- maybe sufficient for 2 easily. Service is great.
Good all aspects, great people, excellent service, thanks Darrell!
