Can't speak for the actual hotel - we had a reservation and had to cancel unexpectedly and they were very helpful in getting that fixed. If their phone is down, try DMing on Facebook or insta.
While I stayed at the hotel only for one night, I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality and size of the room. The room is at the back of the hotel and was extremely quiet, with only the sounds of the river and the hummingbirds. Staff was very accommodating and pleasant throughout my stay. Highly recommend.
Heather and Ashley at the cafe were absolutely delightful! Lovely ambience, delicious and fresh food! Gave great recommendations for things to do in the area. Stopped in on a whim and couldn’t recommend more highly!
The location is the main positive. The beds are very comfy. And the place has a very cool vibe, especially for those into history! Unfortunately, our group's experience was extremely frustrating. We rented seven rooms, and one room developed a significant leak from the roof directly over the bed during heavy rain. Because the hotel was full, the solution was for two members of our group to share a room for two nights so the displaced guest could have a usable room. The leaking room itself remained unusable. Communication was one of the biggest issues. The owner states the phones are staffed from 9am–7pm, but throughout and after our stay I repeatedly tried calling and could not get through. The line often did not ring or connect to anyone. Emails also went unanswered. This made it very difficult to address problems as they occurred and nearly impossible to resolve billing questions afterward. While the property is quaint and well located, our overall experience was disappointing enough that I we are unsure if we would stay here again. Update Response: Thank you for responding. I appreciate the apology and understand that a roof leak during a storm creates challenges, especially when a hotel is fully booked. However, while I appreciate my colleagues' flexibility, that should not be viewed as the resolution to the problem. I am also concerned by the communication issues. We hope those are resolved quickly. I would caution future guests to get a second contact upon arrival in case the phones are down and something arises.
Historic Colorado vibes at the Hand Hotel in Fairplay — a place born from the gold rush era and still serving frontier hospitality like it never went out of style. Strong Americano, decadent decaf mocha, sage-kissed biscuits & gravy, spinach quiche, and a parfait worthy of a mountain morning. Old mining town soul with comfort food energy. You'll be glad when you visit.
Staff was friendly and attentive, didn’t expect anything new but the beds could use some updating. Headboards were gone, bed was so so. Cafe downstairs had excellent service and good food. Over all great experience.
