About the event

Every Easter Sunday in San Francisco, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence turn celebration into an act of resistance. Director Jennifer M. Kroot (The Untold Tales of Armistead Maupin, to Be Taken) dives into the annual tradition where drag, burlesque, religious parody and outrageous pageantry collide in an expression of queer community and radical joy. Anchored in the 2023 celebration, the film blends performances, candid interviews and rare archival footage to trace four decades of the Sisters’ fearless activism, from confronting the Catholic Church to advocating for those pushed to the margins. With Sister Roma, Rupaul’s Drag Race alum Honey Mahogany and voiceover by George Takei, "Hunky Jesus" is funny, irreverent and unexpectedly moving, celebrating a community that has made an art form of challenging hypocrisy while welcoming everyone to the party.
Q&A with QDoc alums Director Jennifer Kroot and Editor Bill Weber, joined by Sister Roma, Sister Lida, and Honey Mahogany to follow the screening.
