About this place Kala Bar

Kala Bar is a relaxed gay-friendly bar in Split's city centre, offering a welcome alternative to the more tourist-concentrated venues along the Riva waterfront. The bar occupies a quieter location a short walk from the main tourist areas, with an atmosphere that is more local and unpretentious than the high-season tourist bars. The clientele mixes local gay residents — Split's own LGBTQ+ community, which is more visible than its small dedicated venue count might suggest — with international visitors who have found their way to Kala through word of mouth or local LGBTQ+ recommendations. The bar is a good choice for an early evening drink before moving on to Romeo Bar later in the night, or as a quieter option for those who prefer conversation over club noise.

They serve no food and there are plenty of drink options(and to be honest in mid august I don't really feel like eating a lot so this spot was "spot on" - see what I did there?? Huh??). Not much to say about this place other than they have fans with mist to cool you down, plenty of space and shade, and an indoor area. The reason why I am giving 5 stars is because the staff went the extra mile to chill our glasses by hand before bringing them out (it was very nice to see- as not many spots do it).

Good coffee, service and coffee

A coffee bar that doesn’t serve coffee in the evening. A new trend for the 2026 tourist season. You simply can’t make as much money on coffee as you can on alcohol, and combined with the ban on selling alcohol in stores in the evening, this is an opportunity for local businesses to shift to a more lucrative product line. Many tourists apparently don’t mind this, but I do. A coffee bar that doesn’t serve coffee in the evening. New for the 2026 tourist season.
