What reviewers say

Some visitors describe Funny Carrot as a nice and cozy place with good music. However, a significant number of reviews warn of the bar being a "trap" and a "rip-off," with multiple accusations of overcharging customers, particularly on credit cards, and dishonest dealings by the owner or bartender.

About this place Funny Carrot

Funny Carrot is a welcoming gay bar on Szép utca in central Budapest, offering a relaxed and intimate setting for LGBTQ+ travelers and locals alike. It's a small place, which means a neighborhood feel, not some high-energy club. Expect friendly bartenders and waitstaff who make you feel at home. The bar really comes alive in the evenings. That's when you'll find drink specials, so it's easy to enjoy a few without spending a fortune. Being street-facing, you get a decent view of the area outside, which is a nice touch. This is the kind of place for actual conversations, where you might actually get to know people. Budapest's queer scene has plenty of options, but if you want something more laid-back than the big clubs, a smaller gay bar like this is a good alternative. Stop by for an evening drink, or to meet people in a friendly spot.

NEVER AGAIN! 100% NOT RECOMMENDED! A complete RIP-OFF! If you pay with a bank card, you can forget about what you had on it... If you pay in cash, you'll be ripped off! It's a shame that consumer protection in Hungary is so "weak"... It's not even worth zero! Shameful... Unfortunately, the system doesn't allow ratings without stars or with negative values...

I travel to Budapest every summer for the last 5 years. I always go to this bar and most times I have a good time. HOWEVER, this past summer (2016) there was a new bartender working when I entered. He is in his 20`s with lots of attitude. My whole experience - talking and interacting with him- was just weird for the time I was there. And for no reason as the night went on he became extremely RUUUDE with patrons of the bar. His behaviour was just bizarr to me. Lots of smoking in the place all night long. I suggest the bar next door if you want to have a good time...

TRAP ALERT!! The owner charged 10 times more than he should have on the credit card and then claimed he could not cancel the transaction. We had to fight teeth and nail to get the difference in cash and we were copiously insulted. This bar has not seen a customer in months and the owner has gone cukoo!
