Gay Manaus in 2026: the honest summary
Manaus is a city of more than two million people in the middle of the Amazon. Its gay scene is real but small: a handful of bars and clubs in and around Centro, one men's club listed as a sauna, an adult cinema-bar, and a Pride parade that fills the old downtown every September. If you searched for pegação em Manaus or cruising gay Manaus, here is the short answer. There is no gay beach, no sauna circuit and no safe, established outdoor cruising zone, so most men meet on apps and then at the bars below. Weekends are loud and the crowd is local and friendly. Manaus also has a serious crime problem: in 2025 the Grupo Gay da Bahia's count made it, relative to population, the deadliest Brazilian state capital for LGBTQ+ people. Come for the nightlife and the river, plan your rides, and stay alert.
Where the scene is
Centro, the historic downtown between the port and the Teatro Amazonas, is where almost everything happens. The everyday hub is Praça da Saudade (officially Praça 5 de Setembro) and Rua Simão Bolívar, where Pride also gathers each year. A few blocks south, Rua 10 de Julho near Largo de São Sebastião and the Teatro Amazonas has the bar crowd, and Rua Lobo D'Almada and Avenida Ramos Ferreira hold a few more venues. Centro is busy by day and empties fast after dark, so a night out there means taking a car from door to door.
The one big name outside the centre is in Dom Pedro, a residential district to the north-west, on Avenida Pedro Teixeira. Ponta Negra, on the Rio Negro to the west, is the city's beach and promenade district. It has the big hotels, bars and sunset crowds, mixed rather than gay, and it is not a cruising area. Adrianópolis and Vieiralves are comfortable middle-class districts with restaurants and business hotels.

Bars and clubs
Manaus has no mega-clubs like São Paulo's. Expect bars that turn into dance floors around midnight, drag shows, funk and pop, and a crowd that is mostly local and young. Every venue posts its party dates on Instagram, so check there on the day. All of them are listed on our Manaus gay bars and clubs page.
Augusta Haus (Dom Pedro)
Augusta Haus, at Avenida Pedro Teixeira 2673, is the busiest LGBTQ+ club in the city right now. Its Instagram was posting several times a week in November 2026, with themed parties and guest drag acts on its agenda. It is a proper club night with door staff, so bring ID and expect a cover charge. Take a car both ways.

Largo 443 (Centro)
Largo 443 is the established downtown bar at Rua 10 de Julho 443, close to the Teatro Amazonas. In November 2026 its Instagram listed opening hours as Friday 9pm to 3am, Saturday 9pm to 4am and Sunday 7pm to 1am. If you're staying in Centro, start here.
Casa da Thata (Praça da Saudade)
Casa da Thata on Rua Simão Bolívar is a small LGBTQ+ cultural space and bar right on Praça da Saudade. Before the 2025 Pride march it hosted drag shows and DJs, which shows how central it is to the community. It is a neighbourhood place, not a big club.

TS Night Club (Centro)
TS Night Club on Travessa Vivaldo Lima is the old guard. Local tourism sites call it the most traditional gay club in Manaus, with drag and go-go nights on weekends. We could not confirm a 2026 programme, so ask locally or check social media before you go.
Glam Pink Lounge (Centro)
Glam Pink Lounge on Rua Lobo D'Almada is a newer, smaller lounge with very little public information. Treat it as unconfirmed and message ahead.

Pegação e cruising em Manaus: what really exists
This is why most people land on this page, so here is the honest picture. Manaus has very few gay venues with sex on the premises, and almost no tourist information about them. Here is what exists:
- The sauna. Clube H2O at Rua José Paranaguá 657 in Centro is the only gay men's venue in the city listed as a sauna. Older listings describe a men-only club with steam, a pool, a dark room and cabins, but other listings call it a bar. We could not confirm its 2026 format or hours, so check its Instagram (@clubeh2o_) or call before going. See our Manaus saunas page.
- The cinema-bar. Pub Cine Aventura at Avenida Ramos Ferreira 664 in Centro averages 4.4 on Google from about 270 reviews. In Brazil a "pub cine" is usually an adult cinema with a bar, and that is what the name and the reviews suggest: a men's venue with screens and dark areas. It publishes no hours or entry prices, so phone (92) 3071-3134 first. Over the years Manaus has had other adult cinemas in Centro. Most have closed.
- Outdoor spots. Locals have long talked about a wooded strip in the Distrito Industrial near the Bola da Suframa roundabout. We no longer list it. It is isolated and next to heavy traffic, robbery is a real risk, and public sex is an offence in Brazil. Ponta Negra beach is not a cruising beach. It is a family promenade with police and cameras, and the beach is sometimes closed to swimmers when the Rio Negro is too high or too low.
- Apps. In practice, pegação in Manaus happens on Grindr, Hornet and Scruff, and then at a hotel. Read the apps and safety sections below before you meet anyone.
- Centro, within walking distance of the bars and the Teatro Amazonas (take a car at night): Hotel Villa Amazônia, a small boutique hotel on Rua 10 de Julho; Hotel Casa Perpétua on Avenida Eduardo Ribeiro; Hotel Saint Paul on Avenida Ramos Ferreira; Hotel Dez de Julho; Rede Andrade Amazônia; and Local Hostel Manaus for budget travellers.
- Adrianópolis, quieter and safer at night: Mercure Manaus and Hotel Intercity Manaus.
- Ponta Negra, by the river beach: Tropical Executive Hotel.
- Vieiralves: Na Casa Hostel, a small hostel near the district's restaurants.
- Use Uber or 99 for every journey at night, even short hops inside Centro. Both work well and are cheap. Wait for the car inside the venue.
- Outside the few bar blocks, Centro's streets go quiet after about 9pm. Do not walk between venues with your phone in your hand.
- From Eduardo Gomes airport to Centro or Adrianópolis takes roughly 25 to 40 minutes by car, depending on traffic.
- Buses stop running late, so don't count on them after a night out.
- PrEP is free through the SUS, Brazil's public health system, and foreign visitors can use it too. In 2025 the city health department (Semsa) ran PrEP follow-up at around 15 reference health units across the urban zones. Any health unit can tell you where the nearest PrEP point is.
- The Fundação de Medicina Tropical Dr. Heitor Vieira Dourado (FMT-HVD), on Avenida Pedro Teixeira in Dom Pedro, is the state's reference centre for HIV and tropical diseases. It offers testing, PEP and PrEP. Check the FMT-HVD website for current hours.
- The Fundação Alfredo da Matta (FUHAM), at Avenida Codajás 24 in Cachoeirinha, is the state's reference centre for sexually transmitted infections and dermatology. It offers free rapid tests for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B and C.
- PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) must start within 72 hours of the risk, and sooner is better. Go to FMT-HVD or a hospital emergency department and ask clearly for "PEP".
- Every pharmacy sells condoms and lube. Bring your own to the sauna and the cinema. Dengue is another risk, so wear repellent, especially in the rainy season.
- The Grupo Gay da Bahia recorded six violent deaths of LGBTQ+ people in Manaus in 2024. Its 2025 report ranked Manaus first among state capitals relative to population. Trans women face the highest risk.
- The most common trap for gay men in Brazilian cities is the fake app date. Someone invites you to a place, or comes to your room, and then robs you, sometimes after drugging your drink (locals call it "Boa noite, Cinderela"). Meet in public, keep your drink in your hand, and never go to an unknown address in a district you don't know.
- Phone snatching is common in Centro. Carry a cheap phone or keep yours out of sight, and leave your passport and spare cards in the hotel safe.
- Avoid isolated places, outdoor cruising areas and the riverfront after dark.
- Showing affection is fine inside the venues and at Pride. On ordinary streets, read the room, as many locals do.
- Meeting of the Waters (Encontro das Águas): the dark Rio Negro and the sandy-coloured Solimões flow side by side for kilometres without mixing. Half-day boat tours leave from the port.
- Jungle lodges along the Rio Negro and in the Anavilhanas archipelago, for one to three nights. If you travel as a couple, book with an operator that clearly lists private rooms.
- Presidente Figueiredo, about two hours north by road, for waterfalls and caves.
- Novo Airão, for the Anavilhanas islands and the river dolphins.
- For a much bigger gay scene, Belém is the nearest major city, and São Paulo or Rio are about four hours away by air.
Our gay cruising map covers verified spots across Brazil and the rest of the world.
Hotels
Manaus has no gay hotels. Mainstream hotels are used to same-sex couples, and Brazilian law forbids discrimination. Pick by area:
The full list is on our Manaus gay-friendly hotels page. If you bring a date back, most hotels will register your visitor at the front desk. That is normal in Brazil, and it leaves a useful safety record.

Events and Pride
The Parada do Orgulho LGBT+ de Manaus is the biggest LGBTQ+ event in northern Brazil. The state human-rights secretariat counted more than 20,000 people at the 2024 edition. The Instituto da Diversidade organised the 25th edition on 28 September 2025, which set off from Praça da Saudade and marched along Avenida Constantino Nery. The 26th edition followed on 27 September 2026, again starting at Praça da Saudade. Entry is free and it runs from mid-afternoon into the night. The gathering in the square is the friendliest part. The next date has not been announced yet, but it is usually a Sunday in late September.
For the rest of the year, events means the weekend parties at Augusta Haus and Largo 443, including the touring party brands they host. Our Manaus events listings fill up as organisers publish dates.
Getting around at night

Heat, rain and timing
Manaus is hot and humid all year. Days are usually in the low 30s °C and nights rarely drop below 23 °C. The rainiest months run roughly from December to May, with heavy afternoon downpours that flood streets for an hour and then stop. July to November is drier and hotter. September and October are the hottest months, and Pride falls in September. Drink water, wear light clothes and carry a small umbrella. Clubs are air-conditioned but the streets are not. River levels change a lot through the year, which affects boat trips and the beaches.
Apps
Grindr is the most used app in Manaus, followed by Hornet and Scruff. Expect plenty of discreet profiles with no photos. Meet in public first, at a bar or a shopping-mall food court, before going anywhere private. Never send money, keep your room number to yourself until you trust someone, and tell a friend where you are going.
The law
Same-sex relations have been legal in Brazil since 1830. Same-sex marriage has been legal nationwide since 16 May 2013, when the National Council of Justice ordered it after the Supreme Court recognised stable unions in 2011. Same-sex couples adopt on equal terms. Since 2018 people have been able to change their legal gender without surgery or a diagnosis. Since 2019 the Supreme Court has treated homophobia and transphobia as crimes under the racism law, and in 2023 it equated anti-LGBTQ hate speech with racial insult. In 2025 the domestic violence law was extended to trans women and male same-sex couples. Gay and bisexual men have been able to donate blood freely since 2020. Sex in public places is an offence for everyone, gay or straight.
If you face discrimination or violence, report it to the police on 190 or to the national human-rights line, Disque 100. In Manaus, the Associação Orquídeas LGBTQIAP+ AM offers legal and psychosocial support, and the Instituto da Diversidade do Amazonas organises Pride. More groups are listed on our Manaus LGBTQ+ organisations page.
Health: PrEP, PEP and testing
Safety: be realistic
The bars in Manaus are welcoming, and many locals are relaxed about gay visitors. The risk comes from crime, and it is real.

Keep this page honest
Venues in Manaus change fast and post mostly on Instagram. If a bar has closed, moved or changed its nights, or if Clube H2O or Pub Cine Aventura has changed format, tell us through the contact or report link on the venue page. We checked venue social media, local press and health-department notices in November 2026, and we update this guide when locals send corrections.
