We absolutely loved our stay at The George. It's a unique place that made an important time for us even more special. The staff was helpful and accommodating. We look forward to our next visit.
We stayed for three nights and had a mixed experience. First, the positives. The breakfast was very nice and most unusual for hotels - fancy foods like brie cheese, lunch meats, and fresh grapefruit. Also, they have a free candy room, as well as free wine in the afternoon. Overall, the place was quiet, and the clientele was upper-class. We slept fairly well. Also, the hotel itself was very clean and charming. The location is also very good - nice neighborhood and next to good restaurants. Now the negatives. The first night the bed sheets were dirty (not sure what was on them, but it was bad), and we only found out about 9 PM. We had our children with us and it was bedtime for them. The guy working the night shift was not helpful at all, asking us to show the proof, and then was gone for 30 minutes before replacement sheets could be found. If you end up with a problem in the night, good luck - there seemed to be literally no one around. The room itself was somewhat small, and the sofa was both stained and somewhat college-dormy. We were on the bottom floor, and we had both an air purifier and dehumidifier going all the time. I guess it would have been worse without them, but the point is that it felt like we were living in someone's basement. Maybe it would be better on the upper floors? At multiple times there was no one at the main desk, and there seems to be no way to reliable call for assistance. The gym is absolutely minimal - barely anything to it. The rooms are super-overpriced for what you get, although in all fairness I guess if that is what the market allows, so be it. But from our perspective, not much bang for all the bucks we had to shill out. Finally, the cleaning woman literally never came into our room. Not sure if that is there standing policy, but we never saw anyone clean up the room or offer fresh towels.
Our stay at The George was just so wonderful and the staff treated all of us like royalty. We loved our time there.
A wonderful hotel with acute attention to detail, walking distance to downtown. Highly Recommend.
