Hotel Waldhaus-Langenbrahm
Visitors frequently praise the hotel's beautiful location, friendly and attentive staff, and excellent food, particularly the breakfast buffet and half-board dinners. However, some guests noted that certain rooms are dated and in need of renovation, and one reviewer was disappointed with the quality of an expensive truffle dish.

Unreservedly recommended: small, refined, individual... simply excellent, with central connections. And if, contrary to expectations, the shower water remains cold, a customer-oriented solution is found. Thanks to the team at "Das Lola"!
The beds were relatively narrow, two 80/200 cm beds, I think. The furniture wasn't the newest, but functional. Overall, we had a small room, a small bathroom, and a small TV. The breakfast was exceptionally good, and the location was generally quiet. Everything was clean. There was a very limited number of parking spaces behind the building, but parking on the street was also possible.
A hidden gem
The hotel is in a fantastic location near Villa Hügel, Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, Margarethenhöhe, Lake Baldeney, and Grugapark. There are also plenty of options for dining out in the evening. The hotel has ample parking with space for bicycles and motorcycles. The rooms are nicely furnished and very clean. The staff are incredibly friendly, very helpful, and always happy to answer any questions. I highly recommend the small but extensive and fresh breakfast buffet. We found everything we wanted for breakfast there. Thank you to the staff for the wonderful stay in Essen.
A lovely little hotel. Easily accessible, situated in a green setting (despite being in the city). Aside from other guests, I didn't hear a thing (though the walls are a bit thin). The reception is staffed from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM – for later arrivals, you can get your room key from a terminal in front of the main entrance (it was easy to use and worked well). There's a 24-hour phone number available in case of problems. The rooms are a good size, the bathrooms are renovated, and the Wi-Fi worked well. I was in Düsseldorf on business (for the trade fair), and this hotel offered excellent value for money. Plenty of free parking was available behind the building or on the street. Breakfast is available, but I didn't have it.
From early evening onwards, there's no reception or even a bar. Access is controlled via a code and key box. Think youth hostel 🤨 The rooms are clean and tidy, the location is quiet, and there's unguarded parking behind the building. In front of the building is a city forest with corresponding walking paths (well-trodden trails). The breakfast buffet is good and plentiful, items are readily replenished, and friendly service creates a pleasant atmosphere. During the summer months, the terrace is also open. Overall, it's recommendable; the late 90s style, combined with good quality, characterizes the still-high-quality furnishings. For the evening, there are restaurants within walking distance on the next main street.
