Eszeweria

Eszeweria is the kind of bar Kazimierz does best: candlelit, cluttered with mismatched antique furniture, and utterly unhurried. Run by a welcoming gay couple, it has been a fixture on ulica Jozefa for years and remains one of the few genuinely queer-owned spaces in Krakow rather than merely a friendly one. The interior feels like the living room of an eccentric great-aunt - dried flowers, old mirrors, wax dripping down bottle necks - and in summer the hidden garden out back becomes one of the most pleasant drinking spots in the district. The soundtrack stays low enough for conversation, which is precisely the point. The crowd is mixed in every sense: queer locals, artists, students and travellers who wander in from the Jewish Quarter and stay longer than planned. It is not a party venue - no drag stage, no dance floor - but as a first stop of the evening or a quiet date spot it is hard to beat. Drinks are affordable by Krakow standards, with decent wine, Polish beers and simple cocktails. Cash used to be king here; cards are now accepted, but the pace remains defiantly analogue. Come early on weekends if you want a table in the garden.
