South Water Kitchen

Grabbed a quick bite here for brunch/lunch. It was a weird time of day we got hungry on our stop thru Chicago. This was one of the few places that stayed open open during the awkward hrs between 10-11:30. I like that we could at least grab a Bloody Mary while we waited the half hour for the kitchen to open up again at 11. Our waiter, JDJ, was on the ball and took our order exactly at 11. We had the small plates. They were all excellent. The arugula salad was not as sweet as I was expecting which was a good thingI’m . The garlic fries amazing! JDJ brought us a few samples of beer before my fiancé decided on one and did it happily. Granted it was not busy there but I thought the service and food were wonderful!

Very disappointing. My cocktail was delicious. But the food didn't come close to the quality of the cocktail. Duck with noodles had no life, pretty bland stuff. Service was good, cocktail delicious. Food disappointing.

Pretty uninspired food. Smoked salmon was decent. Hamburger was okay but I asked for no tomatoes and they brought tomatoes. Quinoa bowl was flavourless and again asked for no tomatoes and got tomatoes mixed in and chopped up. When I mentioned it I was told it was the kitchens fault... well that's great but doesn't help me. Not awful but many much better choices.

Delicious, rich, comfort food with a farm-to-table inspiration. Great local brews on tap and some of the best bread pudding I've ever had. I pick a hotel near this place every time I'm in Chicago!
