Galway Pride
About This Event
Galway Community Pride (Bród na Gaillimhe) dates its first parade to 1989. That year about fifteen people gathered in Eyre Square after local LGBT people met to talk about homophobia in the city. Nuala Ward and Padraic Breathnach organised it. The festival says it is the longest continuously running Pride in Ireland. For the 30th anniversary in 2019, the City Council voted unanimously to fly the rainbow flag at City Hall.
It is a week-long festival in early August that ends with a Saturday parade. The week includes community gatherings, mental-health events, arts and performance nights, club nights, and family-friendly, sober and low-sensory events.
In 2026 marchers gathered in Eyre Square from 1:15 p.m. and set off at 2 p.m. for the West End, where there were speeches and a street party. Galway is busy in August, so book a room early. Expect road closures on parade day.
The 2026 festival ran from 2 to 8 August, with the parade on the 8th, under the theme of queer joy, resistance and community. One tourism listing shows 1 to 7 August 2027 marked "tbc". The organisers hadn't confirmed 2027 dates when we checked.
