About this place Oltrarno Splendid

Oltrarno Splendid is a small mainstream hotel on Via dei Serragli in Florence's Oltrarno, the artisan quarter on the south bank of the Arno. It's a short walk from Ponte alla Carraia, Santo Spirito and Palazzo Pitti, and the Duomo is about 15 minutes away on foot. It is listed as gay-friendly, not as a gay hotel. Guest scores are excellent (4.9 on Google from roughly 150 reviews). Oltrarno is quieter at night than the area around the Duomo but still has plenty of wine bars and trattorias around Piazza Santo Spirito. Book well ahead for spring and autumn.

Quiet Luxury in the Heart of Florence Our stay at Oltrarno Splendid was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had. On arrival, we thought the taxi driver had dropped us at the wrong place — huge keypad doors, a gated entrance, and a tiny lift made it feel more like entering a private residence. A unique and memorable first impression. Pre-arrival communication: Excellent The taxi from Florence Airport was easy and around 30 minutes, costing just over €30. Corner suite: Splendid The room was spacious, beautifully designed and full of character. We loved the balcony with morning sun overlooking terracotta rooftops and a nearby church, complete with faint church bells in the background. Amenities were superb — excellent tea selection, espresso machine, minibar, and a heavenly bath after long days exploring. Staff and service: Brilliant Warm, attentive and genuinely helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast plus the all-day drinks and snacks: Delightful Location: Quiet Peaceful and close to the Arno River with great restaurants nearby and easy access to both the Oltrarno side and Florence’s main attractions. Overall: Stellar No hotel is ever perfect, but overall this was a stellar stay. With limited suites available, book early to avoid disappointment.

Having a key to the front door felt like we had our own 18th century palazzo close to the Arno. Sumptuous B&B with stunning furnishings. Our standard suite was huge and beautifully furnished. Lovely to have a claw foot freestanding bath in the bedroom and a dual shower! We loved being away from the crowds, but close to all the major sights within easy walking distance. Davide was kind and attentive throughout our stay. Good continental breakfast. A perfect start to our 2 week tour of Tuscany. We loved our stay here and will return when we next visit Florence

This hotel is a peaceful haven in the middle of busy Florence. Beautiful rooms in a stunning historical building make it an easy place to relax. The service was excellent, all the staff were very attentive and friendly. The breakfast was delicious with lovely fresh coffee and a continental selection. The decor was quirky and interesting and there were plenty of places to relax which made us feel at home. The location is brilliant, it's a short walk over the river right into the heart of the city and there's loads of lovely restaurants and cafes close to the hotel. Our suggestions for improvement are more wardrobe space in the rooms to store clothes and a full-length mirror/space for my wife to do her hair. Overall though, we had a fantastic stay and will be back again!

I am extremely disappointed with this hotel's complete lack of empathy and disregard for public health and safety. My daughter was diagnosed with conjunctivitis, influenza H3N2, pharyngitis, and middle ear infection by her pediatrician. Despite providing official medical documentation, the hotel refused to cancel our reservation or offer any refund. What is most shocking is that the hotel prioritized keeping the full payment over the health and safety of their own staff and other guests. They were fully informed that we were infected with influenza H3N2 - a highly contagious virus - yet they chose to keep the money from a family dealing with a medical emergency. This shows that profit matters more to this establishment than basic human decency, guest wellbeing, or public health responsibility. Their staff and other guests deserve better than a management that puts them at risk of infection. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone who values ethical business practices and basic compassion.

We loved our stay at the Oltrarno Splendid. The breakfast every morning was amazing, the staff were so helpful and kind, and the neighborhood was super fun to walk around in. The business cards the hotel leaves out for local spots were a great tool to find good nearby restaurants, too.
