About this place Blackbird

Blackbird, in Chicago's West Loop, is a fine dining spot where Executive Chef Paul Kahan turns out thoughtful, seasonal American food.

The cooking here has gotten plenty of praise, and for good reason. Kahan and his team really do respect their ingredients, pulling off contemporary American dishes that feel both innovative and grounded.

Inside, the place is a study in quiet elegance. Thomas Schlesser, who won a James Beard Award, designed it. Think sharp, minimal lines, lots of white space, and soft gray mohair. It's a setting that feels special without shouting about it, letting the food do most of the talking.

Blackbird is LGBTQ+-friendly, and it's a good place for an upscale meal, whether it's a big celebration or just a Tuesday night when you want good food. Its West Loop address means you’re not far from other things to do or places to eat in the area. Check their website for menus, reservations, and hours.

Fantastic lunch. I've dined for dinner a couple times and recently discovered they are open for lunch! Great option for those wanting a more economical option to dinner or a nice business lunch. I took my best friend here and we thoroughly enjoyed the prix fix lunch at $28. I had the shrimp confit, chicken sausage dish, and a dehydrated pineapple dessert that made the meal. Everything was timed perfectly. Presentation was beautiful and food was well executed. My friend raved about her fish dish. The restaurant was fairly full, but we never felt rushed and could still enjoy a fairly quiet conversation. Go there! Especially for lunch if you want to try a Michelin caliber meal but are on a budget.

Came here for a casual get-together but stayed for a 13-course Reserve menu with wine pairing. There is an only limited amount of reserve menu available on certain days. Make sure you check the reservation. The food is very interesting, the chief's menu is greatly influenced by Japanese ingredients. A creative combination of eastern and western cuisine. Each dish is beautifully presented and the wine pairing is very thoughtful. The service is impeccable, I forgot our waitress' name but she mentioned she is from Germany. She is very professional and funny. The only drawback is that the three dessert courses were not very impressive
