About this place Salpicon

Salpicon brings Mexican cooking to Chicago’s Old Town, just off North Wells Street.

The name means “pinch” or “splash” in Spanish, and the restaurant lives up to it, taking classic Mexican dishes and giving them a contemporary spin. This isn't a place for predictable tacos; expect thoughtful twists on familiar recipes. It’s also LGBTQ+-friendly, which is always nice to know.

Chicago has plenty of good food, and Salpicon fits right in with the city’s neighborhood-focused spots. The vibe is relaxed, good for a casual dinner with friends, a low-key date, or even just eating by yourself. The kitchen’s energy—authentic Mexican, but with a pulse—keeps things lively without being stuffy. It feels like a place that knows what it's doing, without being overly formal.

If you're in Old Town and want solid Mexican food, Salpicon is a decent bet. For hours and the full menu, check salpicon.com before you go.

Overpriced appetizers and the overpriced Margarita tasted like an old lime. Chili Rellenos were very good. Disappointed tonight and spent $65!!

Omg. I can't even explain. You must go. Service awesome. Food fresh and perfectly cooked and balanced flavors. I'm rating it best restaurant. Been to great upscale places. Owner Priscilla attention to detail shows through out .
