What reviewers say

Visitors frequently praise Generator Dublin's excellent location, clean rooms, and good value for money, with many enjoying the modern design and amenities like the bar. However, a common complaint revolves around maintenance issues, particularly broken showers and bathroom doors, and some guests found it expensive for a hostel with limited common areas and no kitchen.

The location was satisfactory, but the accommodation did not match the room advertised on Agoda. Although the booking stated 6 twin beds, we were assigned a room with 6 bunk beds upon check-in. Later that night, we returned to the room flooded, leaving our luggage soaked. As it was too late to relocate and we needed privacy, we accepted the front desk’s offer to remain in the room with a refund. No cleaner attended to the issue, so we had to clear a dry corner ourselves to place our belongings, with one suitcase even kept in the bathroom. We spent the night sleeping on the bunk beds in the only area unaffected by the flooding. On the next day morning, we checked out and front desk committed to refund via the platform we booked. In reality, they didn’t refund anything. It’s not the money we want back but felt cheated by the hotel which is supposed to be reputable and professional. Besides, my IPad was left on the upper tier of the bunk bed and there is no news regardless of my several requests.

Clean friendly. Got a six person private room for my family. Worked out great.

It’s a good hostel for the price. Bathrooms are really clean, they have a nice bar with good drinks and food. Only complaint and reason for 2 stars is that I booked a mixed dorm and was the only woman in a dorm with like six men. When I saw the hostel room listed as “mixed gender” I definitely assumed it would actually be mixed and not just men lol. I saw some other reviews say they had the same issue. I saw a lot of women around the hostel so I think this might be more of a booking issue than a rather then a gender ratio issue. I only stayed one night so it was was fine but if I was staying multiple nights I definitely would’ve asked to be moved. Nothing bad happened but some of the guys kinda stared which was slightly uncomfortable but overall they seemed harmless. I mean maybe two of them seemed less than harmless they were leering quite a bit but luckily they did not stay in the room long. The other guy was closer to my age so it was less uncomfortable but the other two were like middle aged maybe older. I would have felt A LOT safer in a room with at least one or two other women staying in it. Definitely something it seems like this hostel needs to work on with the bookings to be honest. Putting one woman in a room full of men is obviously going to be an uncomfortable experience for most women. I would say if you’re a female traveler to book a female only dorm as this issue seems to be a reoccurring thing in some of the reviews I saw. Also the paid lockers are a little annoying as they don’t take cash and my cards weren’t really working well on them lol, but if that had been the only issue I would have rated 4 stars instead main issue was really the room situation. The rooms were clean and I saw so many housekeepers the whole time I was there so they seem really on top of that. I say it’s overall a very nice hostel and I would stay here again but they really need to fix the issue with the mixed dorms. Not the best experience for a solo female traveler.

The location is very central. Not exactly the nicest or safest area, but okay. I stayed in a 15-bed female dorm. The beds are alright, very hard, but okay. We only had two toilets and two showers. The bathroom was constantly full of hair and dirt. There was some mold. I was on the fifth floor, and you could hear the bar very often. Furthermore, many of the girls were inconsiderate and were loud until late into the night.

The food was more than just bad. It didn't taste like what it was supposed to. The selection at the breakfast buffet also left much to be desired. The bathroom resembled a hospital bathroom; the sink was clogged and sewage was coming out of the drain. It seems they've never heard of wall insulation in Dublin. You could hear everything that was going on in the hallway and the adjacent rooms.
