Gay Country Rank: 49/193
The Taiwan International Queer Film Festival (TIQFF) was established in 2014. Is organized by the Taiwan International Media and Education Association (TIMEA).

Taiwan has experienced democratic movements in both politics and culture since the 1980s. The fight for rights gained momentum in the 90s and has continued to grow ever since. Starting from Taipei events like the Gay Pride Parade have spread to other cities since 2000. These achievements are a result of the efforts of numerous individuals who have fostered a diverse lgbtq+ culture in Taiwan earning it recognition as Asias most gay friendly country. Notably after social activism from various sectors of Taiwanese society and numerous political debates both within parliament and public spaces same sex marriage was legalized on May 17th, 2019 making Taiwan the first Asian country to do so. However despite these localized triumphs Taiwan still lacks a voice that can effectively connect diverse lgbtq+ groups, with the government its people and the global community.
