Football fanatics may know Manchester as being home to two of the most prolific clubs in the world, but the average gay knows the city to be home to the most lively and vibrant scene in the northern part of the United Kingdom. Nearly all of the well bars and clubs are strategically located in the Gay Village. This is also where Canal Street forms the main walking area, making it the place to be, particularly on the weekends. Annually, towards the end of August, Manchester Gay Pride occurs, turning the city into a gay mecca of sorts, with local UK residents and others from across Europe for a weeks of parties and events. From bars and clubs, to a plentiful supply of saunas and cruising areas, Manchester should not be overlooked on any journey to the UK.
