A popular spot for gay socializing Graafs Pool has a history as a beachfront tidal pool and a well known landmark. It's worth noting that in 2005 part of Graafs Pool was demolished. Before this alteration it was a gathering place for the gay community from the 1960s until the 2000s.

Once a vibrant and important location for the community in Cape Town Graafs Pool has undergone changes following its partial demolition. Despite this transformation the area around Sea Point and particularly along the Promenade remains associated with social activities, in Cape Town.
