The inaugural Manila Metro Pride took place in 1994. Has since evolved into one of the largest lgbtq+Q+ gatherings in the Philippines. Its purpose is to advocate for equality, acceptance and understanding for the lgbtq+Q+ community while shedding light on the challenges they face.
The highlight of Manila Metro Pride is undoubtedly the Pride March occurring on the events final day. This lively parade showcases the colors of the lgbtq+Q+ community in Manila. Participants often don rainbow themed attire while proudly displaying banners and signs conveying messages of love, equality and acceptance.
Beyond the captivating Pride March itself Manila Metro Pride encompasses a range of activities catering to various interests, within the lgbtq+Q+ community.
These activities encompass performances by local and international artists screenings of films that shed light on lgbtq+Q+ stories, as well as discussions and workshops covering various topics such as lgbtq+Q+ rights, mental health and HIV/AIDS awareness.
In times Manila Metro Pride has evolved beyond a mere celebration of the lgbtq+Q+ community. It has transformed into a platform for advocacy and activism with organizers utilizing the event to raise awareness about pressing issues like discrimination, bullying and violence against the lgbtq+Q+ community.
As both a demonstration of joy and an expression of collective protest the event serves as both a celebration and a mass rally. Each year we pay tribute to the Filipino lgbtq+QIA+ community by creating an environment that uplifts us and encourages us to come to challenge established institutions in the Philippines by demanding substantial change. The annual gathering aims to foster a sense of inclusivity and unity among lgbtq+QIA+ individuals.
Annually we unite individuals organizations and communities not to advocate for equality but also to demand justice for the lgbtq+QIA+ community, in the Philippines.
