Sitges doesn't mess around when it comes to being Europe's queer beach playground. This Mediterranean town just 40 minutes from Barcelona packs more gay venues into its compact streets than cities ten times its size. The sauna scene fits right into that energy—small but perfectly formed, and always busy when the festivals hit.

Sauna Sitges is the main spot, located on Carrer d'Espalter just off the gay party strip. It's been around for over 18 years and got a complete makeover back in 2016. The place covers two floors with a dry sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, maze, private cabins with slings, glory holes, and that infamous foam party room. During summer they're open from 4pm to 9pm, then again from midnight to 8am—perfectly timed for the after-club crowd. The weekend foam parties are legendary, drawing guys from all over Europe who pack the place wall to wall. Entry runs around €16.50, and they provide the basics like free towels, lockers, condoms and lube.

The bar upstairs at Sauna Sitges doubles as a late-night drinking spot, so you'll often find people hanging out there even before hitting the sauna itself. It gets busiest around 2:30am when the bars let out and everyone's looking for one more adventure before calling it a night.

Parrots Sauna operates seasonally inside the Parrots Hotel right in the heart of the gay village on Carrer Joan Tarrida. It's smaller and more intimate—just a steam room, dry sauna, jacuzzi, private cabins and darkroom. Hotel guests get special pricing, but non-residents can visit too. The place runs from May through September, closing during winter months when Sitges quiets down a bit.

The real magic happens when the big events roll through. Sitges Pride takes over the town from June 4-8, 2025, and suddenly these saunas become essential stops on everyone's itinerary. Pride here isn't some side event—it's ranked as one of Europe's top five pride festivals. The Pride Village opens every night with free drag shows and concerts right on the waterfront. The parade on Sunday afternoon sees thousands marching along the promenade, followed by that massive Tea Dance party where the entire beach becomes one giant celebration.

Wednesday kicks off with Drag Domination featuring stars like Lady Diamond and Mary Mac. Saturday brings the hilarious High Heel Race at 6:30pm where anyone in heels can compete for VIP tickets and prizes. The Drag Brunch at Le Patio restaurant sells out fast—unlimited mimosas with drag queens performing tableside while you eat.

Then there's Bears Week in September, pulling over 10,000 bears and admirers into this tiny town. From September 5-15, every venue throws themed parties. The PopAir BBQ becomes the social event everyone talks about, and suddenly Parrots Pub transforms into bears headquarters. The saunas stay packed during bears week—you'll wait for a locker during peak hours.

Between these massive events, Sitges maintains this constant buzz. The gay strip on Carrer Joan Tarrida and surrounding streets like Carrer Bonaire hold over 20 gay bars within walking distance. Privilege and Organic clubs don't open until 2:30am and run until sunrise. Vertigo does shower shows with gorgeous dancers on weekends. Bukkake Cruise Club operates as a dedicated cruising spot, open from 11pm to 6am during summer season.

The whole setup works because Sitges stays walkable. You're never more than ten minutes from anywhere. Hit the gay beach at Playa de la Bassa Rodona during the day, sauna in late afternoon, grab dinner, hit the bars on Plaça Indústria around 11pm, move to the clubs at 2am, then finish at the sauna before crashing. Repeat daily. During Pride or Bears Week, multiply that energy by about fifty.

February brings Carnival, which while not specifically gay, attracts massive queer crowds for a week of costumes and chaos. The whole town essentially operates as one big gay resort from May through September, with these saunas serving as the reliable bookends to very long, very fun nights.
