And to boot it's located just minutes from Schöneberg's gay establishments. KaDeWe is an abbreviation of 'Kaufhaus des Westens', which translates as 'Department Store of the West'. Adolf Jandorf opened the store in 1905, selling it in 1927. KaDeWe suffered major bombing during the Second World War, then greatly reinvented and expanded.
