Olde-worlde pub for chicken, salad, bread and beer One of Berlin's great institutions, this early-20th-century tavern specialises in beer and, since the 1950s – when the business needed a boost – hearty, tasty, salty and crispy chicken, which remains the signature dish here and which takes seemingly forever to arrive. Ask for the half chicken ('halbes Jungmasthähnchen'). Distractions during the worthwhile wait include comforting potato and cabbage salads, particularly nice home-made bread and the pleasingly cosy and yesteryear decor. Landbier (beer in a manly beer stein) and a fruity Berlin dessert speciality Rote Grütze round out the memorable experience. The food combined with the warm and local-feeling atmosphere make this highly recommended. Garden open in spring and summer.
