Potemkin

Address:
Viktoria-Luise-Platz 5 ,Berlin,10777,Germany
Hotspot Description:
Stroganoff in Schöneberg A popular all-day restaurant opened in 2006 by a Russian who named his venue after the mutiny among ill-fed sailors in 1905 Tsarist Russia, made famous by director Sergei Eisenstein (1898–1948) in his dramatically cut film Battleship Potemkin (1925), which consistently throughout much of the last century was cited among cinema's ten best films. The food here is surely an improvement on the rotten meat given to the sailors — dumplings, blinies, stroganoffs, pork medallions etc — and can be eaten outdoors overlooking late-19th-century Viktoria-Luise-Platz, with its rising central fountain and ruins-like classical colonnades at either end. By contrast, the interior runs havoc with jolting shades of red, à l revolution. Potemkin remains something of a breakfast haven for gay hangovers. Shamefully the restaurant charges for tap water. Located directly next door to German neighbour Montevideo [see entry] – a six-minute walk south of the Fuggerstraße. U-Bahn: Viktoria-Luise-Platz. aka Restaurant Potemkin
